Stieg Larsson First to Pass 1 Million Books Sold on Kindle

Author reaches Amazon e-reader milestone

Stieg Larsson — late Swedish author of international bestsellers "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" — has become the first to sell over 1 million copies through Amazon's Kindle Store.

Amazon announced that Larsson is the first member of its so-called "Kindle Million Club." (A manufactured milestone, to be sure, but nonetheless impressive, considering the Long Tail fragmentation of consumer media consumption over the last 10 years.)

All three books in Larsson's so-called Millennium Trilogy are now among the top 10 bestselling Kindle books of all time, Amazon said, and are currently sweeping the the top three spots on Amazon’s bestseller list ranking.

Larsson died in 2004, shortly after delivering the Millennium manuscripts.

On Monday, TheWrap reported that Daniel Craig officially closed a deal to play journalist Mikael Blomkvist in David Fincher's English-language adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." (TheWrap first broke the news of Craig's casting back on June 3.)

The deal with Sony Pictures includes options for the two other books in the series.

Oscar winner Steve Zaillian ("Schindler's List") adapted the first novel.
