Strong Debut for TNT’s ‘Rizzoli & Isles’: 7.6M Viewers

New cop drama enjoys the second biggest debut in basic-cable history; sixth-season debut of “The Closer” up 7%

TNT continues to have success launching shows behind its hit procedural “The Closer,” with new drama “Rizzoli and Isles” scoring the second-best debut in ad-support-cable history Monday night.

The women-targeted cop drama, which stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, premiered to 7.6 millions. That’s only a Mark-Paul Gosselaar hair behind TNT legal drama “Raising the Bar,” which debuted to 7.7 million watchers in September 2008, also behind “The Closer.”

Of course, TNT renewed “Raising the Bar” the next day, and ratings dropped like a stone every episode from then on.

But good news is good news, especially considering “The Closer’s” sixth-season premiere – which scored 7.7 million viewers – was up 7 percent over its season-five bow.
