Teamsters branch set to vote on strike authorization Sunday
Labor negotiations between Hollywood drivers and the major studios have hit an impasse, and the truckers' union is set to vote on a strike authorization Sunday.
Talks between the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers and Local 399 of the Teamsters failed to resolve the labor dispute Friday, with the nearly 3,000 Teamsters drivers threatening to walk out on August 1 when their current three-year contract runs out.
The dispute centers on annual pay raises — the AMPTP is willing to give 2 percent annual bumps in compensation, but the union is seeking 3 percent.
The union could work without a contract, but both sides appear set for a showdown.
The drivers last struck in 1988, staging a 24-day walkout over pay cuts.
