Summit has acquired rights to a book as interesting as its title is long: "Storming Las Vegas: How a Cuban-Born, Soviet-Trained Commando Took Down the Strip to the Tune of Five World-Class Hotels, Three Armored Cars, and Millions of Dollars," TheWrap has confirmed.
It's about … well, the title tells what it's about.
But if you want more, Summit says it's the rags to riches story of the ultimate Robin Hood — Jose Vigoa, a larger than life character born in Cuba who comes to America and uses his quick wits and quicker fists to trade a life of poverty and desperation for one of danger and adventure.
The studio is in negotiations with Antoine Fuqua to direct. His 2001 "Training Day" cemented Fuqua's reputation as a guy who knows his action. He's now developing Summit's action-thriller "The Tomb."
As interesting: Summit is negotiating with Lorenzo di Bonaventura to produce.
Nobody's ever acused the "G.I. Joe" and "Tranformers" producer of having anything but the best action credibility. And he's branching out. Although his deal is at Paramount, he made "Red" for Summit, "1408" for the Weinstein Company and "Salt" Columbia and Relativity.
Eric Feig, Summit's president of production, Michael Schaefer, the studio's vice president of acquisitions and co-productions, and Sophie Cassidy, creative executive, are overseeing the project.
John Huddy wrote the book.
