Ratings: ‘Supergirl’ Plummets More Than 30 Percent Without ‘Big Bang Theory’ Lead-in

Episode 2 was less powerful than a locomotive, but still in line with NBC’s “Blindspot”

"Pilot" — After 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, Kara Zor-El, (Melissa Benoist, center) Superman's cousin, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be, on the series premiere of SUPERGIRL, Monday, Oct. 26 (8:30-9:30 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. The series moves to its regular time period (8:00-9:00 PM) on Monday, Nov. 2. “Supergirl” just sunk faster than a speeding bullet.

Without “The Big Bang Theory” as a lead-in — and with significantly less hype for Episode 2 — “Supergirl” sunk 31 percent in the key 18-49 demographic versus last week’s fast national rating, and 33 percent in rounded total viewers. The CBS comic book adaptation did manage to match “Blindspot” as the top scripted series in the demo — but the NBC show is further into its fall season, which creates less urgency to view “live.”

Now a self-starter at 8 p.m., “Supergirl” still lifted CBS’ time slot versus a year ago. NBC — which also featured “The Voice” — topped Monday overall.

NBC was first in ratings with a 2.9 rating/9 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 10.6 million, according to preliminary numbers. “The Voice” at 8 scored a 3.2/9 and 11.9 million viewers. “Blindspot” at 10 had a 2.2/7 and 8 million viewers.

CBS was second in ratings with a 1.8/5 and third in viewers with 8.9 million. “Supergirl” posted a 2.2/7 and 8.9 million viewers. “Scorpion” at 9 got a 1.9/5 and 9.4 million viewers. “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 10 received a 1.2/4 and 8.3 million viewers.

ABC was third in ratings with a 1.7/5 and second in viewers with 10.1 million. “Dancing With the Stars” earned a 2.0/6 and 12.4 million viewers. Special “Countdown to CMA Awards” at 10 received a 1.0/3 and 5.5 million viewers. ABC was preempted for “Monday Night Football” in Charlotte, inflating numbers last night.

Fox was fourth in ratings with a 1.1/3 and in viewers with 3 million. “Gotham” at 8 had a 1.6/5 and 4.3 million viewers. “Minority Report” at 9 got a 0.6/2 and 1.8 million viewers.

Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.9/3 and in viewers with 2.3 million.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.7/2 and in viewers with 1.8 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.4/1 and in viewers with 1 million. “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” at 8 had a 0.3/1 and 977,000 viewers. “Jane The Virgin” at 9 got a 0.4/1 and 1.1 million viewers.
