TCA: ABC’s ‘Shark Tank Week’ to Go Up Against NBC’s ‘Million Second Quiz’

ABC entertainment Paul Lee announces "Shark Tank Week" at TCA

Taking inspiration from Discovery's "Shark Week," ABC plans a "Shark Tank Week" of repeat episodes of the reality show in the week of Sept. 8. It will compete with NBC's "Million Second Quiz," a 24-hour live game show NBC hopes will get viewers to watch TV in real time.

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee announced the week in a Television Critics Association panel Sunday. The move comes as networks increasingly turn to big-event shows or live TV to try to get viewers to watch shows when they air, rather than on DVR.

"Million Second Quiz" is one of NBC's biggest bids for live viewers. CBS has found success with the summer limited-series "Under the Dome," and Fox plans "24: Live Another Day" and "Wayward Pines," among others.

Lee said ABC is in the limited-series game too, pointing to its upcoming "Resurrection" and "Betrayal." But neither of those original shows have the built-in fanbase of "24" or "Under the Dome."
