Telemundo Suspends Hosts Over Making Racist Gestures (Video)

“We are extremely disappointed with our morning show contributors,” says the channel in a statement

Telemundo has suspended two of their on-air hosts after the pair made racist gestures while speaking about the South Korean soccer team at the World Cup.

James Tahhan and Janice Bencosme were suspended indefinitely from the Spanish-speaking channel’s morning program “Un Nuevo Dia (A New Day)” after the pair made slant-eyed motions on their face on live television.

In a statement, the network, which is owned by NBC Universal, said it was “extremely disappointed” by the incident.

“We are extremely disappointed with our morning show contributors James Tahhan’s and Janice Bencosme’s gestures referring to the South Korean national soccer team,” it said. “Our company takes this kind of inappropriate behavior very seriously as it is contrary to our values and standards.”

Bencosme and Tahhan made the gestures while celebrating the surprise defeat of Germany by the South Korean team on Wednesday.
