The Battle for ‘Gotham’ Reaches Full Boil in Latest Fox Trailer (Video)

With the players established in the corrupt and crime-ridden city, it’s time for all-out war

Fox took advantage of the World Series to draw attention to one of its success stories of the fall. Paired with last season’s breakout hit “Sleepy Hollow” on Monday nights, “Gotham” has been quietly building tension between several key players as the corrupt city sits on the verge of all-out war.

In a single minute, the trailer does a good job of introducing the major characters, with Jada Pinkett Smith and Robin Lord Taylor shining the brightest. Smith is chewing scenery every week as aspiring kingpin Fish Mooney, while Taylor’s smarmy Penguin finally embraces his nickname as he seeks a power play of his own.

Riddled with classic Batman villains, with more to come, “Gotham” is a cornucopia of fun for Batman enthusiasts, while still appealing to hard-boiled crime fans. While it’s a little over-the-top, this isn’t yet a city full of costumed vigilantes and villains fighting.

After all, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is just a child. For now, it is his friend and future commissioner James Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) battle.

“Gotham” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
