‘The Grinch’ Trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch Is Mean, Green and Ready to Take Down Christmas (Video)

Dr. Seuss’ nasty enemy to Christmas woke up on the wrong side of the bed

The first trailer for “The Grinch” has arrived to ruin Christmas well ahead of schedule.

Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing the nasty (yet beloved) Dr. Seuss character in Illumination and Universal Pictures’ upcoming animated feature and the struggle is real for the anti-hero as he works to get through his daily routine with the help of his dog Max in the clip, released on Thursday.

The Grinch then spends some time bullying the Whos down in Whoville at a supermarket. But he does get a taste of his own medicine when he’s punched in the face by an inflatable snowman.

The film follows the same story told in Dr. Seuss’ classic holiday children’s book, following the cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit.

Directors Scott Mosier (producer of “Free Birds”) and Yarrow Cheney (“The Secret Life of Pets”) are adapting the film for the big screen.

“The Grinch” hits theaters on Nov. 9.
