‘The Red Road’ Season 2 First Look: Jason Momoa Says Kopus Is ‘Trying to Walk a Straight Path’ (Exclusive Video)

“But a couple of things happen … and he gets back in trouble,” the SundanceTV star says

SundanceTV’s “The Red Road” returns on April 2, after nearly a year long hiatus, and the drama’s showrunners and stars are promising Season 2 is even more intense than the first.

“Season 1 was a very layered story with complex characters who go to extreme means,” creator Aaron Guzikowski said in a behind-the-scenes video given exclusively to TheWrap. “We’re elevating the stakes in the second season. There are a lot more twists and turns and life and death choices. We’re going to dig deeper into the conflicts.”

“Game of Thrones” veteran Jason Momoa stars as Phillip Kopus on the cable drama. The actor will play Justice League hero Aquaman in Warner Bros. upcoming DC Comic-inspired films, but on “The Red Road” his character is a dangerous ex-convict doing a mediocre job of avoiding trouble.

“In the beginning of Season 2, after a year in prison, Kopus is obviously on parole,” Momoa says in the video. “So, he’s trying to walk a straight path. But a couple of things happen, he acts on that, and he gets back in trouble.”

“‘The Red Road’ is a thriller at its core, but it’s also very much driven by the characters.” Guzikowski  continued. “In many ways that’s the heart of the show. this season we find out more about the past and secrets hidden within this community.”

“The Red Road,” co-starring Martin Henderson, Julianne Nicholson, Antoni Corone and Lisa Bonet is the second scripted series fully produced by SundanceTV, behind “Rectify.”
