Hip-hop artist and music producer Timbaland is developing an autobiographical musical called “Opera Noir,” based on his upcoming final album of the same name.

Tim Mosely is partnering with Leftfield Pictures to develop the special event, which will follow a young musician’s rise to the top and hardships along the way — including struggles with poverty, substance abuse and crime.

Timbaland helped mastermind hits for such music superstars as Jay-Z, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Missy Elliot, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake and more. He is also responsible for the music on Fox’s hit musical drama “Empire.”

“Tim’s unbelievable candor about his experiences and difficult past help illustrate one of the most epic success stories in the industry,” said Leftfield CEO and “Opera Noir” executive producer David George in a statement. “We’re fortunate to be part of the ‘grand finale’ of an artist whose innovative and inspiring musical contributions have helped shape the business and will influence artists for years to come.”

Timbaland will executive produce, while George, Adam Sher and Will Nothacker will executive produce for Leftfield. President of Jingle Punks, Jared Gutstadt, whose creative partnership with Timbland helped facilitate the project, also serves as executive producer.
