Time Magazine Ups Ripp to Publisher

VP of ad sales fills vacant slot

Time magazine – one newsweekly currently not for sale – has a new publisher.

Brendan Ripp, currently Time’s VP of ad sales, moves into the publisher slot, which had been vacant under Mark Ford, president and group publisher of Time Inc.’s News Group.

Ripp will continue running the magazine’s ad sales, adding oversight for digital sales for Time.com and Life.com.

In a memo announcing the move, Ford pointed out that Time’s advertising has stabilized under Ripp.

According to the Publishers Information Bureau, ad pages are down 3.2 percent during the first quarter after falling more than 17 percent in 2009.

Newsweek, by comparison, is down 20.4 percent in ad pages through March, following a 26 percent slide in 2009.
