Tina Fey Developing ‘Mean Girls’ Musical

Tina Fey dishes on the project at the SAG Awards

Tina Fey is hoping to take the antics of the cliquish, social-climbing, backstabbing high schoolers from "Mean Girls" and set them to music.

The "30 Rock" actress told E! News at the Screen Actors Guild on Sunday that she is currently developing the musical version of the hit 2004 comedy with her husband, Jeff Richmond. Richmond is the composer on Fey's NBC sitcom.

"We want to. I would love to," Fey said when quizzed about the possibility.

"I think Paramount's onboard," she added.

A spokeswoman for the studio did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Fey wrote the screenplay for "Mean Girls" and played a supporting role as a math teacher. The film was a critical and commercial hit, grossing $130 million worldwide on a $17 million budget and launching the career of Lindsay Lohan.

Fey's "30 Rock" is wrapping up its seven season run next week. She will next be seen in the romantic comedy "Admission" opposite Paul Rudd and will appear in "The Muppets II."

Fey won her fifth Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series on Sunday night.
