Tip o’ the Cap: Chris Evans Appears as Captain America in EW

Evans says he was “almost too chicken” to play the Marvel supersoldier

We all remember Chris Evans as the cocksure, smirking Human Torch from "The Fantastic Four," quick with a joke or smart-ass comment.

Meet the new, totally-opposite-of-that Chris Evans.

The actor appears about as grim, focused and sober as Captain America should on the cover of Friday's Entertainment Weekly (left), which also features interviews from the London-based (they're filming "Captain America" in LONDON?!) production of the Marvel movie about the supersoldier.

For all the confidence in Cap's steely gaze, Evans is quick to admit that he wasn't feeling too sure about taking on the role as the First Avenger.

“At the time, I remember telling a buddy of mine, ‘If the movie bombs, I’m f—-ed. If the movie hits, I’m f—-ed!’” Evans tells EW.

Even after accepting the role (following three answers of "no thanks") Evans said he still has reservations about donning the mask and shield.

Then he realized that he was just being chicken.

“I was just scared,” he told the magazine. “I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear. … I can’t believe was almost too chicken to play Captain America.”
