‘Titanfall 2’ Officially Announced With Brief Teaser Trailer (Video)

The online shooter sequel — slated to expand to PlayStation 4 consoles — will get a much more robust reveal this summer

Video Game publisher EA is getting the hype train rolling for “Titanfall 2” with a trailer that provides little meaningful info — but promises that said info will come in June.

If there’s pressing news to be found here, it’s the confirmation that “Titanfall 2” will be released for the PlayStation 4 in addition to the Xbox One and PC. The original “Titanfall” was built for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. The developers had long indicated that a sequel would make its way to the PlayStation, and here we are.

“Titanfall 2” will be featured during the EA Play event in Los Angeles during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June. EA won’t have a presence at the show itself, opting instead for an E3-adjacent event.

The original “Titanfall” was a competitive online shooter from Respawn Entertainment, with battles consisting of a mix of footsoldiers and players piloting massive mechs.

Respawn was formed in 2010 by refugees from “Call of Duty” creator Infinity Ward after IW bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella sued publisher Activision for unpaid royalties over “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.” A number of other Infinity Ward employees followed West and Zampella to Respawn.

“Titanfall” thus was considered an attempt at a “Call of Duty” killer — the creators of that franchise looking to dethrone the king of online first-person shooters. But it was a disappointment, both in terms of sales and features. The common refrain regarding its release was that “Titanfall” felt like half a game, with no offline story campaign and only a handful of game modes despite a $60 price tag.

It was no secret that “Titanfall 2” has been in development, as folks from Respawn have hinted at its existence often. This teaser, as spare as it is, counts as the official unveiling.
