Showtime Networks veteran executive Tom Christie has been promoted to chief operating officer.

He will continue to lead the company’s distribution, sales, affiliate marketing, network operations and new business development teams, as well as the streaming service product group. Now, Christie will have more oversight of the planning and execution of future strategies and new business ventures.

“Tom is an executive of the highest caliber and is one of our key strategic leaders,” said President and CEO David Nevins, to whom Christie reports. “He is central to driving our long term growth as we continue to expand onto new platforms, and we’re thrilled that he will be stepping up his role at Showtime Networks.”

Christie previously served as president, Distribution, Business Development and Network Operations. With his oversight, Showtime Networks launched a new stand-alone streaming service last year. Since its launch, the service has grown consistently, more than doubling streaming subscribers since the fall.

On the linear side, Showtime has seen big subscriber increases through the years, with Christie credited as a major player in that growth.

Christie, who has now been with Showtime Networks for 25 years, previously served as executive vice president, Sales and Affiliate Marketing for Sundance Channel, and vice president of National Accounts, Western Region for Showtime Networks.
