Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Settle Their Divorce

“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests," the couple says in a joint statement

Just as suddenly as news broke that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing, the celebrity super-couple has settled their divorce proceedings, Cruise's publicist confirms to TheWrap.

“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests," the couple said in a joint statement to TheWrap. "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”

Cruise's attorney, Bert Fields, added in his own statement, "“The Tom Cruise–Katie Holmes case has been settled with a signed agreement. Tom is really pleased we got there, and so am I.”

Holmes surprised Cruise by filing for divorce late last month. Cruise, 50, and Holmes, 33, wed in November 2006. They have a six-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise.

Details of the settlement were not disclosed. However, according to TMZ, Holmes will essentially have primary custody of Suri, with significant visitation time for Cruise. Also according to TMZ, there are restrictions on what Cruise and Holmes can say to their daughter about religion, Scientology included. Those restrictions will be eased as Suri grows older.

Reports last week indicated that Cruise intended to file his own divorce suit against Holmes, with Cruise's lawyer, Bert Fields, saying that he intended to let Holmes "play the media" before getting Cruise's side of the story out.

"We are letting 'the other side' (Katie and her team), play the media until they wear everyone out and then we'll have something to say," Fields told the BBC.

Cruise has been married twice before, to actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman.
