Tom Hanks Squares Off Against Somali Pirates in ‘Captain Phillips’ Trailer (Video)

Tom Hanks plays a generous sailor in the first trailer for Paul Greengrass' "Captain Phillips."

In the upcoming Columbia Pictures release, the Oscar-winning actor stars as real-life Capt. Richard Phillips, who made headlines in 2009 when he gave himself up to Somali pirates hijacking the U.S.-flagged MV Maersk Alabama in order to save his crew.

The film, which floats into theaters on Oct. 11, was based on Phillips' memoir, "A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea."
