‘Tosh.0’ Renewed for Season 5

Rape-joke furor doesn't hurt Daniel Tosh's show

Comedy Central has renewed Daniel Tosh's highly rated "Tosh.0," months after the comedian ignited outrage with jokes about rape.

The show, the highest-rated and most-watched on Comedy Central, will be back for a 30-episode season 5 in 2013.

"Despite the fact that ‘Tosh.0’ has more viewers than any other show on our network, and that Daniel has totally catalyzed his fans online, we still convinced ourselves to pick up the show for another season," said Kent Alterman, Comedy Central's head of original programming and production.

"It's hard for me to get excited about anything when the Miami Dolphins look so terrible," said Tosh.

The mood wasn't so light in July, when Tosh apologized for joking about rape during an appearance at The Laugh Factory in Hollywood. An audience member claimed that when one woman objected that rape jokes weren't funny, Tosh joked that it would be funny if she were raped.

The joke was one of several recent remarksby comics that sparked outrage and debate after it left the confines of a comedy club and was cast into cyberspace by an offended audience member.

"Tosh.0" begins its fourth season on Tuesday, Sept. 25, and is scheduled to air its 100th episode on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
