Tribeca Film Fest Heads to Florence – With Tony Bennett

The Tribeca Film Festival's parent company and IMG Artists have partnered on Tribeca Firenze, a cinematic addition to Florence's Tuscan Sun Festival

The Tribeca Film Festival is headed to Florence.

Tribeca Enterprises, the parent company of Robert DeNiro’s Gotham-based festival, has partnered with IMG Artists to bring film premieres to the Tuscan Sun Festival, which runs June 11 to 18 in the historic Italian municipality.

Tribeca Firenze, as the initiative is called, has signed up Tony Bennett to perform. “The Zen of Bennett,” a film conceived by Bennett and his son Danny, will make its European premiere.

John Malkovich, presenting some of his films, will also make an appearance as an actor and narrator in a live performance combining music, theater and projections.

Tribeca will handpick films it feels mesh with the spirit and quality of the other cultural highlights at the festival, including live music and theater, food, wine and assorted exhibitions.

“Tribeca’s mission is to provide filmmakers with audiences who are passionate about film, to make independent film accessible to a broad international community, and to move people with the power of cinema,” Geoffrey Gilmore, chief creative officer of Tribeca Enterprises, said in a statement. “These ideas are at the heart of our partnership with IMGA and the Tuscan Sun Festival.”

"The Tribeca Firenze film program is a natural extension of the Tuscan Sun Festival and will also reflect the quality it has come to represent," Barret Wissman, IMGA Partner and founder and director of the Tuscan Sun Festival, said in a satement.

The Tony Bennett film, shot by Australian cinematographer Dion Beebe, chronicles “the isolation experienced by the artists in the midst of the recording sessions for his #1 album ‘Duets II.’” Beebe won an Academy Award for his work on "Memoirs of a Geisha" and worked with that film's director, Rob Marshall, on his award-winning "Chicago."
