Roots drummer unearths a tender duet between gangsta rap legends

Remember that time Ice-T and Tupac performed a tender duet of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers?"

Yeah, neither did I, until Roots drummer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson tweeted old video of the pair performing on a short-lived Fox series, "Saturday Night Special," in the spring of 1996.

"First laugh I had in 24 hours," the soon-to-be "Tonight Show" bandleader tweeted Monday. "Thanks Pac/Ice."

Ice has a lovely singing voice, as you may remember from his years with Body Count. Tupac has a hard time keeping a straight face. It's a sweet, lighthearted moment between the hip-hop icons, coming as it did just months before Tupac's death in September.

As Thompson explained in a recent "Fresh Air," interview, he's memorized the intricacies of tens of thousands of songs to perform them live and spin them in his DJ sets. Looks like his memory of television shows is pretty solid, too.
