“Rock the Boat” will feature NKOTB fans cruising with their idols
New Kids on the Block are hoping for some smooth sailing with the TV Guide Network.
The former boy-band sensation sits at the center of one of seven projects TV Guide Network (TVGN) has put into development, the network said Tuesday.
The project in question, “Rock the Boat: New Kids on the Block,” will center on NKOTB fans who take a week-long party cruise with the group.
The series, which is being executive produced by New Kids member Donnie Wahlberg, is intended as the first installment of a franchise, which would presumably feature other former music icons hitting the high seas with their fans.
There's also “TMI,” billed as a “quick-witted and fun show” that will deliver the top stories in Hollywood and entertainment “through the lens of celebrity tweets and posts.” And “Watch! Magazine TV Project,” which will be part travel show, part celebrity biography and part high fashion, will offer a behind-the-scenes look at CBS's “Watch! Magazine.”
“Celebrity Celebrity,” meanwhile, will pair up two teams of celebrity contestants who compete to guess famous names based on their teammates’ clues, while attempting to raise money for charity.
Hosted by Hollywood memorabilia expert Joe Maddalena, “Have You Scene My Room” will give celebrity superfans a home makeover that transforms their rooms into a tribute to their favorite movie or TV show. Continuing on the Hollywood theme, “Tour Wars” will feature competing tour-giving vendors going to extremes to cash in on tourists.
Finally, “The Story Behind” will give viewers an inside look at some of the most successful shows in television history, such as “Friends” and “ER,” using interviews with cast members, producers and TV executives.
“We have commissioned a slate of original projects that capture compelling and exciting stories of Hollywood, fandom and obsession,” TVGN president of entertainment and media Brad Schwartz said. “TVGN is committed to doing what CBS and Lionsgate do best — create hit shows that audiences love.”
