TV Guide Network Serving Up ‘Curb’ Companion

Roundtable discussions will follow repeats of Larry David’s HBO series

If only TV Land were this creative in repacking its repeats: TV Guide Network is launching a companion series for new acquisition "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

When the HBO comedy comes to TVG in June, the network will pair episodes with a micro-series devoted to a dissection of "the moral implications featured in each episode." "Curb" star Susie Essman will host the seven-minute shows, which will feature a panel of pundits and celebs spouting off on the theme of the just-aired episode.

Scott Carter ("Real Time with Bill Maher") will produce the segments, with Larry David overseeing production of the companion to his creation.

It sounds exactly like the kind of show fans of ABC’s "Lost" — including those at Variety — have been begging that network to do for years. (Perhaps the two cable networks with "Lost" repeats will be inspired).

"Curb" and its new after-party will bow June 2 at 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, two canned-but-funny quotes from David and Essman:

David: "Finally, thanks to the TV Guide Network, I’ll get a chance to watch actual, intelligent people discuss and debate the issues addressed on ‘Curb.’ Now if only someone could tell me where this alleged "network" is, I might even watch it."

Essman: “Thanks to Larry, I am on a first name basis with the premium cable audience. And now with TV Guide Network’s series run of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ I’ll get to be on a first name basis with the basic cable audience, which let’s face it, is much, much bigger. My goal is to make this the best seven minute panel show on TV.”
