Sorry, "Idol" fans, Paula Abdul's return to talent shows as host of a new version of "Star Search" isn't a done deal yet.
Abdul was going to slide back into a familiar role behind the judge's table of the singing competition, according to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello , but people familiar with the situation said the reboot of the geriatric program was just one of many projects the former pop star was discussing with ABC.
ABC declined to comment, but the network has made no secret of its desire to get into business with Abdul.
After Abdul left "Idol" last August, ABC President Stephen McPherson told reporters at the TV Critics Assn. press tour that he had no trouble envisioning the "Straight Up" singer strutting her stuff on the network's "Dancing With the Stars."
"Absolutely...we would love to have her as a contestant or a judge," McPherson said. "I think she's a huge talent. There's a senstivity and an emotion to her."
McPherson may soon get his wish.
