The actresses will join the cast of the FX thriller's third season
FX's "American Horror Story: Coven" has added two Hollywood divas to its cast.
Co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy announced the news on Twitter.
Murphy didn't elaborate on the actresses' roles and FX didn't immediately respond to TheWrap's request for further information on the castings.
Bassett most recently appeared on television in the Lifetime biopic, "Betty and Coretta," in which she played Martin Luther King jr.'s wife, Coretta Scott King. She also played Dr. Cate Banfield on NBC's "ER" from 2008-2009. She is probably best known for her Oscar-nominated turn as Tina Turner in the 1993 feature film, "What's Love Got to Do With It," and 1998 film, "How Stella Got Her Groove Back."
LuPone, a multiple Tony award winner, has appeared in a number of TV shows over the years, including "30 Rock" and "Army Wives." She was nominated for an Emmy for her guest appearance on "Frasier" in 1998, and picked up her Tonys for her performances in "Evita" and "Gypsy."
