Drudge Report says one contestant won handily — hours before the shows airs. This story doesn’t name the allegedly lucky guy or girl until the third paragraph.
(Spoiler warning: The third paragraph of this story says who the Drudge Report has named the winner of 'American Idol.')
And the winner is… Matt Drudge.
Not of "American Idol," but of the quest to spoil one of television's best-kept secrets. Hours before Wednesday's finale aired, the Drudge Report posted that (seriously, last warning)…
Scotty McCreery beat Lauren Alaina in the "Idol" season finale.
As an added bonus: Drudge was right.
The site announced, hours before it was official:
UN-COOL, UN-HIP, COUNTRY-FRIED SINGER WINS 'AMERICAN IDOL'...
SOURCE: SCOTTY TOOK NEARLY DOUBLE AMOUNT OF VOTES OVER RUNNER UP... DEVELOPING...
(The first headline linked to a New York Post story that did not name the winner.)
Fox announced that a record-breaking 122.4 million votes were cast following Tuesday night’s performance show — the highest number of votes in the show’s history.
The total Season 10 votes came to more than 730 million — the most of any season — and the grand total of votes cast in the show's history comes to nearly 4.8 billion, Fox said.
Drudge did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
