The Bravo talk host says he fears for his life
Andy Cohen won't be returning to host the Miss Universe Pageant this year, because it's being held for the first time in Moscow, Russia.
Russia has been under fire from global human rights activists after passing several anti-gay laws in June.
"The law is that anyone under suspicion of homosexuality can be arrested," he said, adding that he "didn't feel right as a gay man stepping foot into Russia."
Cohen has co-hosted the pageant for the past two years. And protestors have started a petition asking for the pageant owned by Donald Trump to pull out of holding it in Russia.
“Andy Cohen‘s decision to boycott hosting the Miss Universe pageant sends a very loud and clear message that Russia needs to be held accountable for its brutal and violent crackdown on gay rights," Francesco Pascuzzi , who started the petition at Change.org, said.
"There are more than 20,000 people who've signed my petition, and we're going to keep the pressure on the Miss Universe pageant to pull out of Moscow, in order to make sure all contestants and spectators are safe.”
Other events have been called into question over the anti-gay laws. For example, the 2014 Winter Olympics are set in Russia and has protestors worldwide calling for a boycott of the games.
