'Book of Mormon,' by 'South Park' Creators, Leads Tony Noms

"The Book of Mormon," by the creators of "South Park," led the 2011 Tony Awards nominations with 14, followed closely by "The Scottsboro Boys," which received 12 and closed earlier this season.

The best play nominees were "Good People," "Jerusalem," "The Motherf---er With the Hat," and "War Horse." 

"The Book of Mormon" tells the story of two young missionaries sent to spread the word in a dangerous part of Uganda while lampooning organized religion and traditional musical theatre.

"The Book of Mormon," which "South Park" masterminds Trey Parker and Matt Stone wrote with Robert Lopez, shared the best musical category with "The Scottsboro Boys" as well as "Catch Me If You Can" and "Sister Act."

Among the acting nominees were Al Pacino, Bobby Cannavale, Billy Crudup, Edie Falco, Vanessa Redgrave, and Frances McDormand.
