FX Reups 'The League'

FX announced Wednesday that its picking up its fantasy-football-themed comedy “The League” for a second season.

The re-up of the show, created by Jeff Schaffer (“Seinfeld,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) is significant for the cable network, which is looking to build up a comedy lineup around “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

Through five episodes of its first season, leading out of “Philadelphia” at 10:30 on Thursday nights, “The League” has averaged just over 1 million, and 863,000 adults 18-49. The show has grown FX’s adult-demo performance in the time period by 44 percent since the same period last year.

FX ordered only six episodes for season one -- the finale is Thursday night -- but has ordered 13 episodes the sophomore campaign.

The show’s ensemble cast includes Mark Duplass, Stephen Rannazzisi, Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer and Katie Aselton.
