Franco will play a fashion model-turned-doctor on the Fox comedy
Thank God, James Franco has found work.
Franco will guest-star in a two-episode arc of Fox's "The Mindy Project," beginning with the comedy's Sept. 17 season premiere.
Franco, who stars in the big-screen apocalyptic comedy "This Is the End," will play Dr. Paul Leotard, the charismatic and popular doctor who replaces Mindy at Shulman & Associates while she is in Haiti on a volunteer mission. A former professional fashion model, Dr. Leotard radically altered his career goals after he accidentally walked off a runway at fashion week and was saved by a pregnant woman. From that day forward, he devoted himself to helping pregnant women and immediately applied to medical school.
Franco's arc will continue through the second episode of the upcoming second season.
While the hyper-prolific Franco has become primarily known for his film work since the short-lived cult TV series "Freaks and Geeks," which ended in 2000, the actor has occasionally dabbled in small-screen work since then, including a run on the popular soap opera "General Hospital."
