Fox's "American Idol" wants to remind you of the good times.
Jennifer Hudson, season 3 finalist-turned-Oscar-winning actress and Grammy-winning recording artist, is negotiating her deal to join "American Idol" as a Season 13 judge, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
Hudson, who appeared on last week's finale results show, is interested in joining the show. "She got the offer and her reps are currently negotiating with [the show's production company] Fremantle," the insider said of the process that could take as long as six months to complete.
Fox declined to comment on Hudson's negotiations. Kelly Clarkson was also said to be considering an offer to judge the show.
"The show's producers feel they've lost their core audience," the insider said. "And they want to bring back former contestants in order to tell their core audience, 'We love you.' They know they've made some major mistakes over the past few seasons and they want to make it right with their fans."
Vulture was the first to report that "Idol" had offered Hudson the judging role in a plan to overhaul its judging panel with former contenders.
Clarkson's representatives didn't immediately respond to TheWrap's request for confirmation of an offer.
The fresh start to a judges panel is part of a massive overhaul at "American Idol" that TheWrap first reported earlier this month.
When asked about TheWrap's report that all four judges are leaving, Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly told reporters, "Everything is on the table."
That statement seems true as the series is not only looking to replace the judges with former "Idol" contestants, but is also looking to get rid of its stale theme nights and overall look.
Reilly also said that the show would probably go back to three judges, the number it started with back in 2002.
Although the series is still one of the highest rated shows on broadcast TV, Season 12's ratings fell more than 20 percent over the previous season.
Last Thursday's season finale earned a series low with a 3.6 rating, which was 44 percent down in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic from last season's finale. It also fell to 14.3 million total viewers from last season's 21.5 million.
