NBC has pulled a “Mad Men”-spoofing television promo for its Emmy telecast after receiving complaints that the spots were, in essence, free marketing for AMC’s Emmy campaign.
The spot – which aired Wednesday – featured Jimmy Fallon as Don Draper opposite Christina Hendricks.
But rivals felt the spots were freely promoting “Mad Men” during the Emmy voting process.
“Mad Men” was nominated for 17 Emmys, including best drama.
"This promo was posted prematurely," said a TV Academy spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter. "The Television Academy appreciates NBC pulling the content until after the voting window closes."
That is August 17, when Emmy voting closes.
The Emmys air on NBC August 29.
