NBC to Tracy Morgan: ‘This Behavior Won't Be Tolerated’

NBC chairman of entertainment Robert Greenblatt and “30 Rock” executive producer are very sorry that Tracy Morgan said what he did

"30 Rock" creator Tina Fey and NBC chairman of entertainment Robert Greenblatt have issued statements censuring Tracy Morgan for anti-gay remarks during a recent stand-up performance.

The statements followed a day of outcry after an anti-gay rant by the "30 Rock" star went viral on Facebook.

STATEMENT — Bob Greenblatt, Chairman NBC Entertainment:

I speak for NBC and myself personally when I say we do not condone hate or violence of any kind and I am pleased to see Tracy Morgan apologizing for recent homophobic remarks in his standup appearance.  We will always recognize an artist’s freedom to express him or herself, but not when reckless things are said no matter what the context.  Unfortunately, Tracy’s comments reflect negatively on both “30 Rock” and NBC – two very all-inclusive and diverse organizations – and we have made it clear to him that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

STATEMENT – Tina Fey, Executive Producer, "30 Rock"

I'm glad to hear that Tracy apologized for his comments. Stand-up comics may have the right to "work out" their material in its ugliest and rawest form in front of an audience, but the violent imagery of Tracy's rant was disturbing to me at a time when homophobic hate crimes continue to be a life-threatening issue for the GLBT Community.

It also doesn't line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person.

I hope for his sake that Tracy's apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian coworkers at "30 Rock", without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket.

The other producers and I pride ourselves on "30 Rock" being a diverse, safe, and fair workplace.

This is complete BS.  He needs to be fired from 30 Rock and sent into showbiz exile like Kramer (Richards)!   Considering that more than half of Hollywood is gay…good luck to him sticking around.

It will be tolerated as long as nobody does anything about it, and that is exactly what is happening. This isn't going to stop here. Don't imagine it will, Tracy or NBC or even Tina. This was not a one-time deal, this is the real Tracy, with real precedents of the same kind. That is why an apology will never be enough, because it is not real and it is shallow, see-through covering up for a proud, unrepentant, anti-gay bigot.

BTW, all of you. Get it through your f'ing heads: This is not f'ing amusing or funny or comedic. Any efforts to distract, to lighten things up, is grating and insulting. Minimizing other people by joking about our pain and anger is a certain road to getting lumped in with the jackass you praise for being such a neat guy. He's rotten inside.

I will not be watching “30 Rock” as long as Tracy Morgan is on it. He needs to be held accountable for his actions, just as any other “regular” employee would. Sometimes how a person truly feels about issues is revealed through “a comedy act or stand-up”. An apology is hardly sufficient. And by the way, I am not gay, just embarrassed that people consider his stand-up “entertainment”.

From a business standpoint, I can understand NBC's response, even though it's rather lack-luster. However, he still has his peers and (former) fans to answer to

I do not condone homophobic behavior ,,,,,,but Tracey Morgan is funny……so people get over it…..and if NBC wants to jump up and shout foul over something this man does outside of the 30 Rock then fuck them and all you fucking idiots……HE IS A STAND UP COMEDIAN GET OVER YOURSELF !!! I am a gay man who is outside the closet and I was not offended……he has his opinion and I have mine……

Yes Tracy, despite the fact that at least 94% of all Americans agree with your views when confronted in their face by homosexuals doing what they do. HOW DARE YOU! LOL
