"Take a step back," says Kevin Spacey at the start of Netflix's new Emmys campaign video. "We have the opportunity to make history here."
Netflix sure does: The streaming service has 14 Emmy nominations, and will soon tout them in the video for subscribers, which features Spacey in character as his scheming "House of Cards" congressman.
The brisk ad intercuts scenes from Netflix shows with its latest accomplishments: Two nominations for "Hemlock Grove," three for "Arrested Development" and nine for "House of Cards," including for Outstanding Drama Series.
Of course, Netflix already has made Emmy history just by scoring the nominations, the first in the major categories for an online service. Very few Netflix subscribers are eligible to vote for the Emmys… but they will get to feel, perhaps, like their money is well-spent.
