Amy Walter Named Political Director of ABC News

Amy Walter, most recently editor-in-chief of National Journal's "The Hotline," has joined ABC News as political director, starting Aug. 16. She succeeds David Chalian, who left to take a position as political editor at "PBS NewsHour."

Amy Walter ABC NewsWalter will oversee all political coverage on ABCNews.com. She'll also guide the planning and editorial content of all political news and provide on-air analysis on ABC News programs, including "ABC World News With Diane Sawyer," "Good Morning America," "Nightline," "This Week With Christine Amanpour," ABC News Radio and ABC News NOW.

At "The Hotline," she was the political publication's primary voice, providing regular analysis of the national political scene in her weekly column On the Trail. She has been a regular contributor to "PBS NewsHour" and provided political analysis on CNN, C-SPAN, CBS' "Face the Nation," NBC's "Meet the Press" and HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher."

Prior to her stint at National Journal, she was senior editor of the Cook Political Report from 1997 to 2007.
