Or at least the global pop charts: Fox’s “Glee” is helping a Journey classic soar in the UK
They’re giddy for "Glee" in the UK.
Ryan Murphy’s hit Fox dramedy premiered to strong ratings earlier this month. And now, the series is having a big impact on the British pop charts.
The "Glee" cast’s remake of Journey’s eternal ballad "Don’t Stop Believin’" has been steadily rising in the UK over the past seven weeks and now has climbed to the No. 2 spot overall on the BBC/Radio One weekly compilation of the country’s top 40 tracks. It stands a good chance of displacing Owl City’s "Fireflies" next week from the No. 1 spot.
But in a sign of just how big "Glee" has quickly become, it’s not just the cover of "Don’t Stop Believin’" that’s been doing well. Journey’s original is also back on the UK airwaves in a big way, rising all the way to No. 7 last week before falling back to No. 8 in the latest survey.
"Glee" isn’t the first Fox show to give a big boost to Journey. Josh Schwartz’s "The OC" helped revive interest in the band’s "Open Arms" a few years ago, causing the track to rocket up the iTunes sales charts.
