Emmy Award winner Claire Danes has signed to star in the showtime pilot "Homeland," a new one-hour drama, the network announced.
Danes, who won her Emmy for HBO's "Temple Grandin," will play a CIA officer who becomes convinced that a war hero may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot.
If the pilot is picked up, the series will mark Danes' first TV series since the much-loved "My So-Called Life."
The pilot was written by "24" executive producers Howard
Gordon and Alex Gansa, as well as Gideon Raff. It's the first pilot for David Nevins since he became president of entertainment for Showtime Networks Inc. last August.
Nevins, Gordon and Gansa also worked together on "24" when Nevins was head of television at Imagine Entertainment.
Casting on the male lead is expected soon, Showtime said.
