Craig Ferguson decided to ditch his studio audience Tuesday night -- and the early reviews are raves.
Entertainment Weekly's Ken Tucker is calling it "one of the best hours of TV I've seen in the while." Over at HuffPo, writer Michael Geltz is annointing Craiggers "the new king of late night."
Ferguson began the show with a tribute to the late, beloved Tom Snyder -- his predecessor on "Late Late Show."
"Sit back, fire up the colortinis and watch the pictures fly through the air," Ferguson said, borrowing Snyder's intro for an evening.
Snyder, of course, did thousands of hours of TV without a studio audience -- holding our attention with nothing but conversation. (What a shame, by the way, that all those hours aren't easily available to be re-watched on some cable channel or on-demand service.)
In any case, we haven't had time to watch FergyCraig's "experiment" yet, but it looks like he pulled it off -- even though he said he "found it a little bit disconcerting in the beginning."
