CBS special spotlights golf's up-and-comers, perhaps seeking successor to disgraced star?
Watch out, Tiger, here comes the Bashful Prince!
Despite his troubles off the golf course, Tiger Woods is still the major draw on the PGA Tour at both live events and on televised coverage. But PGA Tour Entertainment has produced "Chasing the Dream," an interesting special to air on CBS on Saturday afternoon that will highlight the next generation of stars on the tour.
Just a coincidence? Or maybe network brass deep down are thinking Tiger's days on the tour may be drawing near (last weekend he withdrew from the Players Championship with a neck injury) and hoping one of these new young guns may step up to replace the troubled legend in the hearts and minds of viewers.
The one-hour special, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, will feature homegrown golf talent including 21-year-old Rickie Fowler, 24-year-old Anthony Kim, and Dustin Johnson and Alex Prugh, both 25, along with 18-year-old Japanese sensation Ryo Ishikawa (left) and 20-year-old golfer Rory Mcllroy from Northern Ireland.
Kim and Johnson are already solid moneymakers on the PGA tour, each having three tour tournament victories. Ishikawa, nicknamed "the Bashful Prince," has won eight tournaments in Japan and now has his sights set on the U.S. PGA Tour.
In promoting the special, CBS Sports and the PGA state that it will "take viewers closer than ever to the distinctive lives of these rising stars, capturing the emotion and triumph that comes with their relentless drive to become the best players in the world."
