For the second season in a row, "Dexter" is getting a new show runner.

Show veteran Scott Buck will take over for Chip Johannessen, one year after Johannessen replaced Clyde Phillips.

Johannessen helped the show maintain the momentum from Phillips' fourth season, which ended with the show's highest-rated episode -- and one of television's best surprises. Season 5, which ended Sunday, was the show's highest-rated overall, averaging more than 5 million viewers each week including TV and on-demand.

The show was also nominated for another round of Golden Globes and SAG nominations this week.

Buck has a long history with "Dexter": He joined the show in its second season as a co-executive producer, and worked previously with star Michael C. Hall on HBO's "Six Feet Under."
