"Shark Week" -- Discovery Channel's 23rd annual underwater predator marathon -- got its best ratings ever this year.

This year's version, which aired from Aug. 1-7, was watched by 30.8 million people. CBS late night host Craig Ferguson served as master-of-ceremonies.

"Shark Week's" previous ratings record was set in 2008 when 29.1 million viewers tuned in for the festivities.
