The biggest surprise in Fox's mid-season schedule isn't its new shows, but a big move for its most successful: "American Idol" is moving from Tuesdays and Wednesdays to  Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The new night will help new "Idol" judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez carve out a new feel for the show, which is saying goodbye to Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen Degeneres.

Most of the new shows, such as the Christian Slater sitcom "Breaking In" and the Shawn Ryan cop drama "The Chicago Code" have been announced previously.

The "Idol" move is great news for Thursday's night's crime show "Bones," which should get a ratings goose from the juggernaut lead-in.

But suffering in the shift is the already ratings-challeneged "Fringe," which will go from Thursdays to Fridays, when viewers tend to be scarce.

The future also looks uncertain for the low-rated "Running Wilde," which hands off its 9:30 rating slot to "Mixed Signals," a relationship comedy created by Bob Fisher (“Wedding Crashers”) that debuts Tuesday, Feb. 8.

"Bob's Burgers," about a family man who runs guess-what-kind-of-business, joins Fox's long-running comedy bloc on Sunday, Jan. 9 (8:30-9 ET/PT).

The comedic "Breaking In," set in a high-tech security firm, marks a different direction for Slater after the cancellation of the dramas "My Own Worst Enemy" on NBC and "The Forgotten" on ABC. It will air on Wednesday at 9:30, beginning April 6.

"Chicago Code" centers on the city's most powerful and respected cops as they navigate the city’s underbelly to fight crime and expose corruption. It's the brainchild of Shawn Ryan ("The Shield").

As previously announced, "Glee" will also get a special post-Super Bowl episode.
