After a one-year break, Fox is reviving its "American Idol" fundraiser "Idol Gives Back."
The network, along with producers FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment, said the special charity-themed edition of "Idol" will air Wednesday, April 21, from 8-10 p.m. during the top-seven results show.
Launched in 2007 and repeated in 2008, "Idol Gives Back" was rested last season.
Benefiting from the fundraiser this year will be Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation.
Past editions of "Idol Gives Back" have raised more than $140 million.
Mike Darnell, president of alternative entertainment at Fox, said the network and producers were basically doing it for the kids.
“In today’s tough economic times, it’s more important than ever – but more difficult than ever – to raise money to help those in need,” Darnell said. “We’re focused on raising awareness about the challenges that so many children and families currently face and demonstrating how even small donations can make a difference and help save lives."
"Idol Gives Back" was the brainchild of "Idol" overlord Simon Fuller.
