Count NBC unscripted chief Paul Telegdy among the "American Idol" faithful mourning the apparent departure of Paula Abdul from the Fox hit.

"As a fan, I'd miss her from the show," Telegdy told reporters Wednesday at NBC's portion of the TV Critics Assn. press tour.

Telegdy said he'd be interested in finding a way to get Abdul on an NBC show, but cautioned "no specific plans" were in the works.

“It’s something we remain open to, absolutely," he said. "I think she’s a great talent and someone America has great affection for.”

Abdul's reps have approached NBC in the past, Telegdy said, but there have been no talks since it became clear Abdul would leave "Idol."

“It’s 9:30 in the morning after (negotiations with ‘Idol’) ended," he said. "I haven’t even looked at what phone calls I got today.”
