Octo-bomb? Eight's Not Enough to Fill Fox with Ratings Love

Octo-bomb? Not quite, but Fox's two-hour special featuring Octomom Nadya Suleman didn't exactly deliver in the ratings.

In other words, Octo-yawn.

The two-hour event averaged an unimpressive 1.6/5 among adults 18-49 and 4.4 million viewers from 8-10 p.m. Wednesday, according to preliminary national Nielsen data.

That number sounds weak-- and it is-- but put in context with everything else that aired Wednesday, it was hardly a disaster. The "Oc" actually won her first half-hour in the demo, and did build slightly during the night, peaking with a 1.7 in the 9 p.m. hour. And Fox points out the special won the night in the fertile female 18-34 demo (as well as women 18-49).

Still, overall the "Oc" ranked only second place during the 8 p.m. hour and in third at 9 p.m. (behind "America's Got Talent" and a repeat "Wipeout."

That's got to be just a bit disappointing for Fox, which clearly didn't rush this special on the air for the positive publicity and warm feelings it generated toward Fox.
