Oprah Winfrey's OWN will air the television premiere of the documentary “Becoming Chaz,” about Chaz Bono's transition from a woman to a man.
The movie, one of the first Sundance documentary acquisitions this year, will premiere on OWN in May.
“We are proud to present this heartfelt and honest portrayal of Chaz’s personal transformation to our viewers,” said Lisa Erspamer, chief creative officer of OWN. “These courageous documentaries engage conversation and we are pleased to have them join OWN.”
The documentary presents the only child of Sonny Bono and Cher as a quiet and shy person who struggled with living inside a body that didn't feel like hers. Bono underwent sex reassignment surgery and documented the transformation so others could learn from it, OWN said.
