Reality TV star and tabloid mainstay insists that, unlike her past shows, she’s really playing herself on “The World According to Paris”
After two “reality” shows — “The Simple Life” and “Paris Hilton’s My New BFF” — Paris Hilton is ready to play herself.
For real, this time.
The hotel heiress explained the nuances of her new docu-series “The World According to Paris” (premiering June 1 on Oxygen) during a panel at NBC Universal’s Summer Press Day 2011 in Pasadena on Friday.
Flanked by her mother/co-star Kathy Hilton and series executive producer Arthur Smith, Hilton says that the show – which focuses on her business ventures and personal relationships – will present a different view of her than her previous reality ventures.

“This show is like nothing I’ve ever done,” Hilton noted. “On ‘The Simple Life’ I was playing a character.”
The series, which will also feature Hilton friend and Charlie Sheen ex Brooke Mueller, will offer “an unprecedented voyeuristic glimpse into Hilton’s real life,” according to the show’s synopsis. Promising a warts-and-all view of the celebutante’s life, Smith noted, “It’s so intimate; I can’t believe what they’re going to let us show.”
So, having presented a more controlled image of herself on “The Simple Life,” did Hilton experience the urge to excise some of the more embarrassing segments on “The World According to Paris”?
Hilton, who also serves as co-executive producer of the series, said that she’s had to separate her dual roles as subject and producer in order to bring viewers a complete view of her private life.
“There were a lot of things like, ‘Oh, my God, I want to cut that out,’ but then I put on my producer hat and left it in.”
The tabloid mainstay, who turned 30 while filming the series, adds that she’s reached a stage in her life where she’s prepared to offer the public an unvarnished glimpse of her existence.
“I wouldn’t have done a show like this five years ago; I wasn’’t ready,” Hilton admitted. “I’m just ready to show myself.”
