On the hottest day in Los Angeles’ history, Activision rescued rockers and celebs with a virtual NYC street party for the launch of the newest rock-along game, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. At left, "Glee’s" Harry Shum Jr. and Mark Salling rock out.
Cory Monteith, Carmen Electra, and legitimate rockers Gene Simmons and Ryan Cabrera got treated to a special “one night only” reunion performance by Soundgarden inside a make-shift CBGB inside one of the faux buildings on Paramount’s New York street. Unlike the original venue’s small and sweaty capacity, this one had room for all five hundred-plus party-goers. Authenticity wasn’t lost though, as the original urinal from the club had somehow been transported to a make-shift museum on site.
The latest edition of the hugely successful annual franchise boasts a crowd-pleaser on the set list: “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” As hot as it was on Monday, the crowd was ready for anything to be poured on them, and drank the beer bars dry in about 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, the creators and cast of NBC’s “Law & Order: Los Angeles” had high hopes for strong premiere ratings at their launch party atop the W Hollywood Monday night. At right, creator Dick Wolf with star Terrence Howard. Fellow cast members Megan Boone, Regina Hall, Alfred Molina and other guests went home with a pun: personalized coffee mugs displaying their own mugshots.
Sally Field, Matthew Rhys, and executive producer Ken Olin did their own partying for the return of ABC’s “Brothers and Sisters” in a penthouse loft downtown on Saturday night. Although the “brothers” had a good laugh at the expense of “sister” Rachel Griffiths’ custom-made leather dress, the only sibling rivalry was at the bar. (The host’s “Bacardi Sibling Rivalry” drink kept the cast and crew from melting on a hot night.) At left, Griffiths, Dave Annable, and fiance/future cast member Odette Yustman.
The next afternoon, there was a battle of the network stars on the ping pong tables at PaddleJam, a celebrity doubles tournament that benefitted Rock the Vote, The Humane Society of the US, and Habitat for Humanity of Greater LA, amongst other notable charities. “The Big Bang Theory’s” Simon Helberg and “Chuck’s” Zachary Levi teamed up, but lost in the finals to party rockers LMFAO. George Lopez, Greg Grunberg, Harold Perrineau, Josh Henderson and Hal Sparks were amongst the many stars who also failed to lift the trophy for their respective charities at the Music Box. PaddleJam creator Kevin Seldon explained that his multiple charity approach allows even those without deep pockets to contribute without spending anything more than their time.
At right, those aren't Hugh Hefner’s newest houseguests.
