Sunday's episode of Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom" draws 2.2 million total viewers
Actual cable news programming might be taking its ratings lumps these days. Drama series about fictional cable news shows, however, appear to be doing just fine. At least as far as HBO's "The Newsroom" is concerned.
The third episode of the Aaron Sorkin-created series enjoyed a bounce on Sunday night, surpassing the total viewership for its June 24 premiere and reaching a high for the nascent series.
Sunday night's episode of "The Newsroom" — which stars Jeff Daniels as suddenly ennobled news anchor Will McAvoy — drew 2.2 million total viewers with its 10 p.m. airing. That's slightly up from the 2.1 million that the premiere episode attracted, and a 32 percent increase over the show's sophomore episode.
A fairly impressive feat — especially considering that the series premiere was the third-highest premiere for HBO since 2008, coming in just behind the 2010 debut of "Game of Thrones."
"The Newsroom" has already been picked up for a second season.
