With no Super Bowl boost, singing competition has lowest-rated premiere
The season 3 premiere of "The Voice" was easily Monday's top-rated show and led NBC to an overall win, but without the boost from the Super Bowl the show received for season 2, it also had its lowest-rated premiere.
"The Voice" had a 4.2 rating and 11 share in the advertiser coveted 18-49 demographic Monday, and 12.3 million total viewers, according to preliminary numbers. It was down 37 percent in the demo from last season's time period premiere on Monday, Feb. 6, when it scored a 6.7/17, and was down 13 percent from last season's Monday average of 4.8/13.

Some decline was inevitable: The first Monday episode of season 2 came the day after a special Super Bowl premiere earned a 16.3 rating and 36.7 million total viewers. It was the highest-rated entertainment broadcast in six years.
Overall, NBC won in the demo with an average a 3.5 /10 and in total viewers with 10.2 million. After "The Voice," the "New Normal," airing in a preview outside its normal time slot, scored a decent 2.5/6 and 6.9 million total viewers. The show from "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy, about a gay couple that adopt a child, has drawn publicity over a Utah station's decision not to air it. At 10:30, a repeat of the Matthew Perry comedy "Go On," which debuted during the Olympics, had a 1.8/5 and 5 million total viewers.
Fox was second in the demo and total viewers with a 2.5/7 and 6.3 million total viewers. The "Hell's Kitchen" finale at 8 scored a 2.5/7 and 6.2 million total viewers, and the "Masterchef" finale at 9 scored a 2.6/6 and 6.4 million.
CBS tied Unvision for third in the demo and came in third outright in total viewers with a 1.4/4 and 4.8 million. From 8 to 9, U.S. Open overrun scored a 1.7/5 and 5.4 million. The rest of the night's schedule consisted of overrun, repeats, and short previews of fall shows.
Univision, like CBS, scored a 1.4/4 in the demo, but landed fifth in total viewers with 3.6 million.
ABC was fourth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.1/3 and 4.4 million. "Bachelor Pad" from 8 to 10 scored a 1.3/3 and 4.5 million, and was followed by a "Castle" repeat.
